Good Good Things
We played our first show last week at STATION. It was the standard first show filled with technical difficulties and awkwardness…Nonetheless it was fun and and it felt good to play new songs for our friends and strangers.
This month we have 2 shows booked, first is on February 10th for Kaleidoscope at 39hotel with 2 favs Stephen Agustin and the Fourth Wall, plus Coral Stabz then on February 15th at Mercury with Temple Fugate, i tramonti and Alive and Swell.
I have been hiding for a very long time I know. You may remember me whining about not enjoying playing live all by myself. So I was luckily enough to have my good friends Kai Salus and Grant (aagnanoseptella) join in the fun and here we are. We started playing around this past September and then didn’t practice again until October. I ended up writing these in the meantime, and we started practicing these songs all month. Grant mentioned he was going to be busy for all of November, so we decided to just record these even though we haven’t rehearsed them or arranged them until our fingers and ears couldn’t take anymore…We had our friend Aren record drums for us on a rainy day at his house in Hau’ula and we covered the rest all on our own including mixing (nightmare!). Here they are…they are little more fuzzy than my previous songs, but boys will be boys (that makes no sense, I know) My good friend Matthew McVickar created the album art and revamped my previous releases with his handwritten font he created…We are lucky guys to have not paid a dime for this entire release, so that is why this album is free. Enjoy!!
I love this man…Can’t wait for his new record and the 12 EP’s he’ll record til then.

Sunset Float E.P.
Finally got together some of the bits and pieces on my Bandcamp page to create what I originally intended to create, which was an E.P. of songs I was uploading every day for a work week. I hit the wall at day 4, which was a bummer…I mean I was only one song away from hitting my goal!
Either way, here is the Sunset Float E.P. I also included a “Hidden Track” (which is pointless to hide since i’m talking about it) called ‘Robbie Douglas’ which was recently turned into a Painted Highways song.
If you have checked out my Bandcamp before you have heard these, but at least they are all bundled together for you to listen to at once.
Livage
I love playing shows. I wanted to make that statement as soon as possible because you may think I don’t after reading the rest of this post. Last night I played a show here in Honolulu and it was a rough one. Which is no ones fault but my own (obviously). The past few weeks have been a mix of working really hard on Painted Highways songs that we are planning to record and taking care of my 2 month old daughter. So I didn’t have much time to rehearse and it’s just hard for me to get really excited about playing solo. Maybe it’s because I grew up playing in bands so getting up there by myself makes me feel like something is missing. I guess what i’m trying to say is I really didn’t enjoy playing last night and that led me to the realization that I haven’t really enjoyed playing any solo shows through the years. I feel like something is missing the entire time, whether i’m playing acoustic or electric, there is this missing link that I can’t explain. Solo shows are just extremely uncomfortable for me. Since the whole point of me playing is cause I enjoy it, I think i’m over it.
I LOVE playing shows with the band, that collaborative energy with people i’ve created songs with is something that can’t be recreated all by myself. If it can, I haven’t discovered how to tap into that yet.
I guess i’m saying I don’t really think i’m going to play solo shows as Pink Mist anymore. Maybe house shows or something special, but i’m thinking i’m just going to keep writing and recording songs as Pink Mist as much as possible and not worry so much about gigging. I have a lot on my plate with Painted Highways, our record and gigs. Not to mention my new family which I really just want to be with 24 hours a day. I think my conclusion after getting this out of my head is, Painted Highways is a band that plays shows and rolls with the standard band life…Pink Mist will be my home recordings, which is what I really enjoy doing with these songs.
I’ll keep posting recordings on here though! I aint quitting this Pink Mist thing! Just going with my strengths.
